***Attention, Parents***
The school district just informed all schools that the Pre-Kindergarten registration will coincide with regular registration on July 23rd, 2012. Any parent who would like information on the district's rationale for postponing registration should watch Channel 8, access the district's website, or click here for more information. Thank you for your patience.

The mission for our school is to "Prepare all children to be successful citizens and lifelong learners."
The mission for our school district is "Mission Possible: Addressing Survival Skills for the 21st Century."

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Chateau Estates welcomes you to the 2011-2012 school year. Many exciting changes have taken place over the summer throughout our district and in our school. Leo Tolstoy once said, “Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself." Think about those words. Ask yourself: Can I better support my child at school? Do I check my child’s Parent Information Guide on Mondays? Do I contact my child’s teacher if I have a problem? Is my child at school on time every day? And, am I willing to put in the extra time needed to partner with Chateau to work together in the best interest of my child? If each one of us: parents, teachers, administrators, and support workers reflect on what we can do better to assist all children and help them to reach their fullest potentials, we will have a fantastic year.
Think about this: we are now in the Information Age which requires new skills and new challenges for learning. To be successful, students must develop a new sets of skills coupled with traditional reading, writing, science, and math. Your child’s future success begins in the primary grades. The 21st century skills of creative and critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration are skills that our teachers are including daily into their lessons. Current Best Practices in education advocate that all schools enhance and enrich their curriculums with 21Century skills in order to prepare our children for a technologically sophisticated world that may be very different from the world we live in today. Individualizing and differentiating the curriculum for students is essential if schools want to ensure that every student masters the grade-level skill requirements needed to succeed at each progressing grade.
As Chateau focuses on developing a strong 21st Century school, we will focus on Best Practices in education. Best Practices in education include a strong integrated classroom curriculum focusing on relationships between subjects, resources that go beyond the textbook, thematic units, use of technology, relationships among concepts, emphasis on problem-solving, analytical skills, and flexible student groupings within classrooms. The assignments that teachers provide and the lessons they design follow the Louisiana Comprehensive Curriculum and Jefferson Public School’s pacing chart. Students must move beyond the basics and perform at higher levels. Learning should be relevant and useful to students, establish connections to life outside the classroom, address real -world concerns, and develop real -life skills.
Parental support is imperative for student success. Please partner with us this year. Join our PTO. Visit our school’s websitehttp://chateau.jppss.k12.la.us/chateau/. Contact your child’s teachers. Seek assistance when needed, and stay up-to- date on your child’s performance in school. If we all make a concerted effort to do more, our children will reap the benefits. Feel free to contact me at colleen.winkler@jppss.k12.la.us or my assistant, bernard.tassin@jppss.k12.la.us with any comment or concern.
Mrs. Colleen Winkler, Principal; M.ED; NBCT
